Xàtiva is the prettiest little town with a population of 30 thousand and is easily accessible from Valencia. Massive old plane trees (Platanus orientalis) line the main street providing plenty of shade during the heat of the day. Most of the rest of the streets in this ancient city are narrow and full of a variety of shops. We found the shops window displays in particular professional and inviting. We also enjoyed the delicious presentations in the bakery and pastry shop windows, which seem to be more prolific than Starbucks’ cafes in Seattle.
There are quite a number of recommended sites we found worth visiting, including churches, archaeological and art museums and especially the highlight of Xàtiva, the castle ruins towering above the town.
