Annecy and Voiron, France
Annecy and Voiron are two pretty little towns we wanted to visit so we booked train tickets and off we went exploring.
Annecy
Sometimes called “Pearl of the Alps”, Annecy (pronounced ‘an-si’), is 45 minutes by train from Grenoble, and lies in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in southeastern France. A beautiful lakeside village with amazing mountain and water views that made us glad when we arrived and sad when we left. This is a town we suggest you spend more than a day in.

“There is a mountain at the end of every street.” Grenoble is often described in this way and we wholeheartedly agree! Then, when the Alps are covered in snow; they become breathtakingly beautiful.
The Tastes of Spain
Sitting here in Granada we realize that we have been traveling around visiting festivals, churches and museums and the one thing we haven’t talked about (yet) is the food that we have been experiencing on our travels. So let’s rewind back to the beginning and start eating.
When we arrived in Valencia it was late February and we certainly were not prepared for the chill in the air. Thankfully we found a snack that is not only tasty but warms you up at the same time.

Saint-Émilion
A town named after a saint that was never canonized. A church carved from one large rock. Wine stores on every corner and vineyards as far as the eye can see.

Château Saint Ahon
We wanted to get out of Bordeaux to see at least one vineyard but wine tasting and driving don’t mix so renting a car was out. And we aren’t the type of travelers that enjoy large tours on a schedule. So, tram or train?

Narbonne, France
Travelling by train to Bordeaux we had to stop in the lovely French town of Narbonne. We absorbed as much as we could with only 22 hours before our onward journey. We certainly were tempted to stay longer.
We were able to visit most of the recommended sites but it wasn’t at a frenzied pace. In fact we stopped for a leisurely glass of rosé wine and a cheese plate followed by a light and creative salad and salmon tartar that we shared. Ahh, the delicious french food!
