Women who defrauded at the border were called “junkies”. They hid in their skirts contraband goods (cigarettes, matches …). The visit is the term for the body search carried out by the customs officers. However a ‘body search’ could not expose more than a woman’s ankles and a ‘pat down’ was out of the question.
