We met a lovely American couple currently living here in Valencia with their teenage daughter. While comparing notes of interesting places to visit, they recommended we drop by the Baños del Almirante museum.
What an enjoyable find! These medieval baths were built in 1313 and continuously operated as a public bath for more than 600 years. There was a cold room, a warm room and a hot steam room.
We also learned that skylights are not a new invention as we found pretty star-shaped skylights throughout these ancient baths. They would have been covered in glass allowing light to come in but prevent heat and steam from escaping.
We have been told by other new friends that in one of our future planned stops in Spain, there may be public baths we can actually experience. 😃
